Featherweight prospect Chase Hooper returned to the win column earlier tonight (Sat., Dec. 12, 2020) at UFC 256 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he submitted Peter Barrett via third-round submission (heel hook).
This was not a pretty performance from Hooper who was coming off a one-sided decision loss to Alex Caceres back in June. Hooper was a heavy favorite coming into this fight but it was Barrett who lead the way with strong leg kicks and solid takedown defense early.
In the third round, Hooper was fighting from behind and likely needed a finish to squeak out the win. “Teenage Dream” was able to roll into a leg lock attempt and tie Barrett up on the ground. Barrett did well to defend early on until Hooper switched to a heel hook and started to apply pressure. Barrett wiggled around in pain and eventually tapped.

With this performance, Hooper improves his UFC record to 2-1 after getting dominated by “Bruce Leeroy” just six months ago. Hooper obviously has a lot of work to do on his feet if he wants to climb the 145-pound rankings, but the 21-year-old continues to prove he’s tough as nails and able to finish a fight anytime it hits the mat.
