Stephen Thompson vs Geoff Neal on tap for UFC Vegas 17 on Dec. 19

New, comments

According to ESPN, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is in the process of locking down a highly-intriguing Welterweight scrap between Stephen Thompson and Geoff Neal, which would go down at the upcoming UFC Vegas 17 event on Dec. 19, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Thompson has been on the sidelines for more than one year now and was last seen defeating Vicente Luque at UFC 244 on Nov. 2, 2019, snapping his two-fight losing streak in the process. “Wonderboy” was in talks to face rising sensation Khamzat Chimaev in his comeback fight, but nothing was ever finalized.

As for Neal, he is currently riding a seven-fight win streak (five straight inside the Octagon), including wins over Belal Muhammad and Niko Price. “Handz of Steel” was last seen dismantling embattled Welterweight contender, Mike Perry, in the first round at UFC 245 in 2019.

The ESPN+-streamed event will be headlined by another Welterweight showdown between Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards. The co-headlining act will see Marlon Moraes attempt to get back on track when he takes on Rob Font.
