UFC Tampa poster drops for ‘Jedrzejczyk vs Waterson’ on Oct. 12

New, comments

Joanna Jedrzejczyk will look to begin her climb back to the top of the women’s Strawweight mountain on October 12 when she faces top division contender, Michelle Waterson, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 161 in Tampa, Florida.

And now, UFC has released the poster for the UFC on ESPN+-streamed event.

It’s been a tough stretch for Joanna over the last two years, losing three of four, including three title fights with her most recent defeat coming against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 231 for the vacant Flyweight title (recap).

Prior to her recent skid, Joanna hadn’t tasted defeat in her first 14 outings, running through the 115-pound weight class en route to winning the strap in 2015 and defending it five consecutive times. Now that there’s yet another new queen of the Strawweights in Weili Zhang, “JJ” looks to score an impressive win over “The Karate Hottie” in order to sneak her way into another title fight.

Waterson, meanwhile, allegedly turned down a fight against Zhang as she eyed a shot at the title. In a cruel twist, UFC then decided to give Weili the championship fight against Jessica Andrade. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, Michelle will look to erase any doubt as to who deserves the first shot at “Magnum” should she collect her fourth straight victory against one of the most dominant former champions the promotion has ever had.

In the co-main event, Kron Gracie will look to score his second straight win inside the Octagon when he takes on longtime veteran, Cub Swanson — loser of four straight — in a pivotal Featherweight matchup.
