Justin Gaethje and Donald Cerrone faced each other in a Lightweight clash today (Sat., Sept. 14, 2019) at UFC Fight Night 158 inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, only on ESPN+. In another excellent performance, Gaethje landed repeated power punches and low kicks to overwhelm his opponent (watch highlights).
Gaethje landed the first and second low kick of the fight, though his third attempt missed. A big left hook landed for Gaethje. Another low kick dug in for Gaethje, but Cerrone answered with a good counter combo. Another left hook landed for Gaethje, as well as an uppercut and low kick. Good right hand landed for “Cowboy,” but he ate a counter right as well. Gaethje scored with some hard shots in the clinch. The left hook and low kick double threat worked very well for Gaethje in the first half of the round. Hard jab landed for Cerrone. Big combination from Southpaw scored for “The Highlight.” Gaethje connected on a hard uppercut and left hook. Another kick landed for Gaethje, this time to the calf. Hard check hook connected for Gaethje, but Cerrone kept pushing forward, only to get absolutely creamed by an overhand. Cerrone fell face-first to the mat twice in the following sequence, and the fight was officially over a few moments later as Gaethje hammered away.
For the third-straight time, Gaethje landed a monstrous first-round knockout. After Tony Ferguson, Gaethje is deservedly next in line for a chance at the Lightweight title.
