Even though it’s UFC Fight Night 156: “Shevchenko vs. Carmouche 2” fight week, the mixed martial arts (MMA) news cycle has been consumed by the drama between Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White and his former women’s Featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg.
I mean, we’re talking about it again right now. Still. It’s crystal clear that White and Cyborg have had serious issues from the jump, which will probably continue well into the future. For UFC women’s Flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, she doesn’t really understand all the fuss.
“From what I know of Dana White, he’s a very good person; he’s a very polite and kind person,” Shevchenko told MMAFighting.com. “Since very early on, he’s always been worried about the fighters. If he says, ‘I will take care of you’, you can be sure he will take care of you because he’s trying to make life for the fighters in the UFC good.
“[He wants UFC fighters] to have everything because UFC is the biggest organization of mixed-martial arts in the world,” she continued. “That’s not just him, that’s everyone that’s involved in the UFC; their treatment of fighters is unique — I haven’t received this [treatment] in any other organization.”
My guess is that White never referred to Shevchenko as looking like “Wanderlei Silva in a dress.” Or claimed that “Bullet” was “afraid to lose.” Or, looked the other way when his on-air talent was making dick jokes.
Let’s just blame this all on Ronda Rousey and move forward. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
Shevchenko, meanwhile, is set to rematch Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC Fight Night 156 this weekend (Sat., Aug. 10, 2019) inside Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay. Bullet” and “Girl-Rilla” first locked horns at C3 Fights: “Red River Rivalry” way back in Sept. 2010, with Carmouche coming out on top via second-round doctor’s stoppage.
