Jorge Masvidal on Colby Covington’s ‘super distasteful’ Matt Hughes comments - ‘That’s kind of stupid of him’

New, comments

Following his win over Robbie Lawler at UFC on ESPN 5, Colby Covington poured some salt on “Ruthless’” wounds by making a joke referencing the accident that Matt Hughes — Robbie’s good friend — had a few years back when his vehicle was hit by a train.

Many slammed “Chaos” for his comments about the living legend, seeing as how the accident nearly killed the former Welterweight king. Even Matt himself chimed in on Covington’s remarks.

Now, even Colby’s closest friends are lashing out at the post-fight comments, as Jorge Masvidal responded to a fan’s question about the incident during a recent Q & A via MMANYTT.

“He did? I didn’t see that. That’s not even remotely funny. That’s the stupidest sh*t I’ve ever heard if that’s real,” said, Masvidal. “Super distasteful. Whatever, that’s kinda stupid of him.”

Nothing wrong with being honest, even if it may upset your best friend and training partner. Speaking of which, according to American Top Team (ATT) manager, Dan Lambert, the two aren'texactly training together as of late, as they both know that a showdown between the two is now inevitable.

“Jorge and Colby aren’t training together anymore,” Lambert told BJPenn.com recently. “They are in the gym together at the same time, but they both see the writing on the wall they have to fight each other,” he added.

“They have gone their own ways in terms of training as they aren’t training together and I don’t blame them as they will have to potentially fight each other soon.”

Indeed, both men have gone on record saying they have no issue with fighting one another, as long as the belt and a hefty payday are on the line. As it stands, Colby is in line to face Kamaru Usman for the undisputed 170-pound title sometime this year.

Following back-to-back knockout wins over Darren Till and Ben Askren, Masvidal has skyrocketed up the rankings, meaning that if he decides to play the waiting game he could be facing the winner.

While a showdown between Colby and Masvidal will cause a bit of tension in the gym, it’s bound to be good business for all parties involved, UFC included. Teammates fighting teammates are just some of the risks that are bound to pop up when you’re as talent-rich as ATT is.
