Jessica Andrade and Weili Zhang faced each other in a Strawweight clash today (Sat., Aug. 31, 2019) at UFC Fight Night 157 inside Shenzhen Universade Sports Centre Arena in Shenzhen, China, only on ESPN+.
Zhang opened the bout with her active lead leg low kick, prompting Andrade to miss with her favorite left hook. As Andrade pushed forward, Zhang nailed her with a right hand. Never one to be deterred, Andrade kept attacking and landed a couple hard hooks, but Zhang’s counter right hand once again landed. This time, it sent Andrade to the mat briefly. The Brazilian jumped back up and drove into the clinch, but that did not stall Zhang’s offense. From close distance, Zhang slammed home elbows until she was able to secure the double-collar tie. From the position, Zhang ripped knees to the mid-section, causing her foe to collapse under the hail of offense.
The whole fight lasted just about a minute.
Every opponent that has faced Andrade in recent years has found success in countering her forward aggression with the right hand, but never like this! Zhang’s own power and physicality made all the difference, as her strikes really had an effect on Andrade. Once the Chinese athlete hurt her foe, she never allowed her to recover, really pummeling “Bate Estaca” in brutal fashion to secure the finish.
Result: Weili Zhang defeats Jessica Andrade via first-round technical knockout
