Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 155-pound titleholder, Conor McGregor, wants to test himself against another ex-lightweight champion in the form of Frankie Edgar, because “The Answer” is considered a legend in the sport and presents a dangerous style of offense that “Notorious” claims in similar to rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“He runs on the back foot and shoots on the single leg,” McGregor recently told Ariel Helwani. “I want these sort of similar bouts. Even though he lost to Max [Holloway] in a very close bout, I don’t care. Wins and losses don’t matter in this game. It’s the stories we are all on and the journeys we are all on.”

Not surprisingly, Edgar is on board. In fact, “The Answer” is willing to put his drop to bantamweight on hold for a chance to mix things up with the power-punching Irishman, especially considering McGregor has been a thorn in Edgar’s side for so many years.

“You know I’m down to fight [McGregor] it should have happened a long time ago,” Edgar wrote on Twitter. “I know I’m going down to bantamweight but for you, any weight class will do. Any time, any weight class, you know I’m game.”

I have a hard time imagining this fight will ever come to fruition, especially considering McGregor will retire one week then claim he’s “back” the next. And UFC President, Dana White, can probably book a “Notorious” headliner that will draw more money, like a Nurmagomedov rematch.

In addition, Edgar is looking to sign a new lease on his combat sports life by dropping down to bantamweight after failing to capture the crown at 145 pounds. “The Answer” faced many of the same problems at featherweight as he did at lightweight, probably because he stands 5’6” with a 68” reach.

A reach that is six inches shorter than McGregor’s.
