Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) held its UFC 241 open workouts on Weds. in advance of the “Cormier vs. Miocic 2” pay-per-view (PPV) mixed martial arts (MMA) event this Sat. night (Aug. 17, 2019) inside Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
That’s where select fighters from this weekend’s main card, including welterweight slugger Nate Diaz, held individual media scrums for combat sports reporters, who returned earlier today (Aug. 15) for a special pre-fight media day.
If that seems like a waste of time, you’re not alone. Diaz decided to skip the festivities because he already said everything he had to say on Weds. and clearly has better things to do during fight week, like train and smoke blunts with fans.

“Nate addressed the media at length yesterday after open workouts covering all topics,” Zach Rosenfield, a spokesperson for Diaz, told ESPN.
UFC is aware of Diaz’s decision.
UFC may be aware of his decision, but it sounds like it came after the fact. The gang over at MMA Junkie saw a media booth set up for Diaz at the host hotel, suggesting his withdrawal was either a surprise or a last-minute decision.
At this point we only need Diaz to show his face at the UFC 241 weigh ins on Friday, as well as the actual fight the day after, where he settles his longstanding feud against former lightweight champion Anthony “Silly-Ass Suits” Pettis.
