Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has pretty much cleaned out the promotion’s 205-pound division, so with no clear-cut contender, lower-ranked fighters like Corey Anderson are trying to shoot their shot, keep their same energy, get all the smoke, or whatever the hell the kids are calling it these days.
No. 5-ranked Jan Blachowicz, fresh off his knockout win over Luke Rockhold, doesn’t want to be lumped into that same group and won’t be spewing any venom on social media. Instead, he prefers to let his body of work speak for itself, and the power-punching Pole believes he’s earned his spot.
“I’m not a Twitter keyboard warrior, don’t have [one million] Instagram fans, I don’t drive a sports car with a gold chain around my neck,” Blachowicz wrote. “But I AM one of the TOP guys in my division and through my honest and hard work I’VE EARNED a [title shot]. I guarantee you a show worthy of UFC, Jon Jones. Here and NOW!”
Jones has been open to rematching Thiago Santos after their five-round headliner at UFC 235 ended in a close decision, but even if the promotion gave him the green light, “Maretta’s” injuries are likely to keep him sidelined until early 2020.
We probably won’t know what happens to “Bones” until longtime rival, Daniel Cormier, handles his business at UFC 241 next month in Anaheim, as “DC” could drop back down to 205 pounds or invite Jones up to heavyweight.
Assuming he defeats Stipe Miocic, of course.
