UFC 238: No broken bones for Donald Cerrone, but Ricardo Lamas suffered three jaw fractures

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight veteran, Donald Cerrone, was hospitalized last Saturday night in Chicago following a technical knockout loss to top-ranked 155-pound contender, Tony Ferguson.

Cerrone appeared to have suffered a broken nose, or perhaps damage to his orbital bone (see the photos here), but it turns out “Cowboy” was able to escape “The Windy City” with nothing more than some topical injuries.

“I’m in good health,” Cerrone wrote on Instagram. “Thanks for all the messages and concerns. Only air was in my eye. No broken bones nor cracked or broken orbital. Sitting and waiting for the rematch or next fight.”

Ricardo Lamas, however, was not as fortunate.

“I suffered three fractures in my jaw during the fight,” the featherweight “Bully” posted on social media. “Been in the hospital since and had surgery yesterday. Titanium plates were installed. I asked the doctor to install laser guns in my mouth that I could activate with my tongue and shoot through my teeth, but he said that was impossible.”

Lamas was smashed by Calvin Kattar in the first round of their 145-pound affair. I can see why Kattar is called “The Boston Finisher” and no question that performance should inch him closer to the Top 10 of his division.
