Makwan Amirkhani regained considerable momentum earlier today (Sat., June 1, 2019) at UFC on ESPN+ 11 live on ESPN+ from inside Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden, when he put a stop to former Cage Warriors FC lightweight champion Chris Fishgold via second-round submission (anaconda choke).
In a featherweight affair that was mostly a ground war, Amirkhani had to mind his p’s and q’s against a proven submission specialist like Fishgold. Luckily, “Mr. Finland” stayed out ahead and eventually gained the upper hand on the ground in the second round. Amirkhani was able to grab a hold of Fishgold’s neck and lock in a tight anaconda choke. Fishgold defended nicely by spinning around like a merry-go-round with no brakes, but Amirkhani’s persistence and squeeze eventually paid off and Fishgold was forced to tap.

With this performance, Amirkhani locks down his second-straight UFC win in his first Octagon appearance since May of last year. “Mr. Finland” continues to prove that he’s one of the most promising prospects at 145 pounds but needs to stay active and healthy in order to take his game to next level. This finish was the perfect start after a long layoff.
