You won’t believe Henry Cejudo’s new nickname debuting at UFC 238 victory party

Hey, remember a few weeks back when newly-crowned UFC flyweight champion, Henry Cejudo, was sending WWE Diva, Nikki Bella, all sorts of (cough) “romantic” tweets and we all thought, “Well, at least it can’t get any worse than this.”

Yes folks, yes it can.

Cejudo has decided to change his nickname from “The Messenger” to “Triple C,” because A) nobody wants to be named after that melodramatic Woody Harrelson movie and B) having three C’s in his nickname will remind everyone that he’s “triple champ.”

“I’m already a champ champ,” Cejudo told Helen Yee (transcribed by “I’m already an Olympic champ and a UFC champ. I’m looking to be the triple champ. I told people, after June 8, after I win this fight, my nickname is officially going to change. Not ‘The Messenger’, but it’s going to change to ‘Triple C.’”

That will be easier said than done. Waiting for Cejudo in the UFC 238 pay-per-view (PPV) main event is top bantamweight contender Marlon Moraes (22-5-1), who finished his last three fights, including two by way of violent knockout.

“He’s going against another animal,” Cejudo continued. “He’s going against the greatest combat athlete of all time. He’s going against the greatest competitor of all time. It’s not your average fight. He can think I’m a flyweight all he wants — I guarantee I’ll be just as big as him, if not bigger. TJ [Dillashaw] didn’t believe it, and look at him.”

Dillashaw, the former bantamweight champion, dropped down to 125 pounds in attempt to become his own “champ champ,” but went down in flames early in the opening round, then got bounced from the sport altogether after blowing up his pre-fight drug test.

No disrespect to the 14-2 Cejudo, but I might be rooting for “Magic” when they battle for the vacant strap, just to avoid calling him “Triple C.”
