Latest UFC rankings: Jessica Andrade debuts on pound-for-pound list, Anderson Silva exits Top 15

New, comments

Remember back in the day when Anderson Silva and BJ Penn were considered two of the greatest fighters to ever compete in mixed martial arts (MMA)? Well, neither “The Spider” nor “The Prodigy” were able to crack the Top 15 after their respective performances at UFC 237 last weekend in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Silva (34-10, 1 NC) has now dropped six of his last seven while Penn (16-14-2) hasn’t won a fight in nearly nine years, a far cry from this and this.

That said, there was some good news for the next generation of UFC superstars (get complete UFC 237 results here). Newly-crowned strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade, debuted on the promotion's pound-for-pound list by stopping Rose Namajunas (video), not long after Alexander Volkanovski shot to No. 1 on the featherweight chart after turning away Jose Aldo (recap).

Sorry, still not good enough for the next 145-pound title shot.

Here’s how the rankings work, courtesy of UFC.com:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).
