Jessica Andrade had to stomach a lot of early punishment last night (Sat., May 11, 2019) at UFC 237 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but she eventually put a stop to women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas via second-round knockout (slam).
Namajunas was doing all the work in the early going. She really started to piece Andrade up with combinations and jabs from all different angles, busting up the challenger’s eye in the process. The champion even landed a knee towards the end of the first round that sent Andrade to the canvas.
The second round was a true flip of the script. Andrade started to land heavy punches as she got inside on Namajunas and closed out the reach advantage. During an exchange along the cage, Namajunas threatened with a kimura attempt only to have Andrade pick her up and slam her. The champion’s head hurled into the canvas and she was knocked out on contact.
