Heavyweights Sergei Pavlovich and Marcelo Golm faced each other in combat today (Saturday, April 20, 2019) inside Yubileyny Sports Palace in Saint Petersburg, streaming only on ESPN+.
They began jabbing and each other and quickly transitioned into heavy exchanges, Golm landing a heavy counter. Pavlovich landed a nice one-two. He landed another nice combination that sent Golm backwards, and buckled him with more punches up against the cage. That was it! Pavlovich had won the fight in front of his home turf in Russia. He conditioned Golm to back off with a stiff jab and then cracked him with the one-two; up against the cage, it was the uppercut that finished Golm off.
Afterwards, he said many words in Russian to the crowd, thanking his team, his coaches, said he never forces the knockout, and after his last fight (a loss to Alistair Overeem) he got right back to the gym and this was the result.
Results: Sergei Pavlovich def. Marcelo Golm via knockout at 1:06 of Round 1
