Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum turned in one of the best middleweight title fights you’ll ever see last night (Sat., April 13, 2019) at UFC 236 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, as both men battled it out for five epic rounds. In the end, it was “Last Stylebender” who walked away with the unanimous decision win and interim 185-pound strap.
Gastelum led the dance early with heavy pressure and winging left hands. He also mixed in a hard right that backed Adesanya into the cage. Adesanya turned the tables in second and third rounds by stinging Gastelum with hard right hands. Gastelum survived to return the favor in the fourth round when he struck “Last Stylebender” with a vicious head kick. Gastelum followed up with heavy combinations that put Adesanya in serious trouble. Adesanya survived.
The fifth round was the wildest as Adesanya badly hurt Gastelum and forced the middleweight to dig deep. Gastelum’s chin prevailed in the long run but he ate some serious damage on the heels of Adesanya right hands and combinations. Adesanya even mixed in two submission attempts during a scramble on the ground.
