Just last week, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight contender Paige VanZant revealed she suffered another fracture in her arm, which bounced her from her proposed fight against Poliana Botelho at UFC 236 on April 13.
And now that’s she’s had time to assess the injury, “12 Gauge” says it won’t keep her out too long. Depending on what X-rays reveal, of course.
“So, it’s just a fracture right at the site of my screw,” VanZant said in her Instagram stories courtesy of MMA Junkie. “My arm is crazy swollen still, so we’re just waiting for the swelling to go down,” she added.
“We’re going to x-ray it in a month, and I think I will be good to go. What that means is I have to take a month off from contact. After that month is over I can sign a fight contract and get right into a fight camp.”
VanZant initially fractured her am in January of 2018 during her fight against Jessica Rose-Clark at UFC Fight Night 124. Despite the injury, Paige finished the fight and eventually lost a unanimous decision.
“12 Gauge” got back on the winning track in her previous outing, taking out Rachael Ostovich at UFC on ESPN+ 1 on January 2019 (see it again here), stopping the bleeding of her two back-to-back losses to the aforementioned Clark and Michelle Waterson.
