Midnight Mania! Max Holloway is out to prove himself to Khabib

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway says he’s out to prove himself to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov by fighting Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 for the interim title. He was scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmadomedov once before, on short notice, before the New York State athletic commission pulled him during his weight cut. Now that his health issues seem to be behind him, he’s on the hunt for glory again. Via

Khabib said he wanted to fight me, but he wanted me to prove myself. I got Dustin. April 13, I decided to prove myself. I’m going to go out there and prove myself, and when he’s ready to come back, I’ll be ready.

He also gave his plans for the featherweight title. Thus far, no double champion has been able to defend both their titles. There is a lull in featherweight contenders for the moment, unless Alex Volkanovski manages to get by Jose Aldo, which won’t happen until May 11.

After that Ortega fight I had to take some time personally and some business stuff, then they came to me with this fight in April,” Holloway said. “Can’t let it slip through your fingers. At the end of the day, first things first, I got Dustin Poirier, and we’ll talk to the UFC after that. I don’t think Frankie (Edgar) or Jose (Aldo) deserve a champ that’s not willing to defend for a year. After this one I could go back down in the summer. That would be fun. But first things first, April 13.

Max also laid out his relationship with the UFC matchmakers: he asks for the toughest challenge possible, then signs whatever contract they send his way.

Askren could barely crush that watermelon. Lawler was fine.

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos will throw the spinning shit

Speaking of spinning shit, so will Muslim Salikhov, who was recently cleared of a doping situation much like Jon Jones’.

Darren Till and Ben Askren are going at it on Twitter

Weili Zhang waxes philosophical

It was the way he still tried to keep it going after spiking himself on the backflip that really made this clip special

Is Jon Jones contemplating fighting Thiago Santos in Brazil?

I like Michael Bisping’s thoughtful caption to this David Goggins video
