Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title contender, Volkan Oezdemir, was hoping to keep himself afloat in the 205-pound title chase with a commanding performance against rising contender, Dominick Reyes, at the UFC Fight Night 147 mixed martial arts (MMA) event last weekend in London.

Unfortunately for “No Time,” the judges rendered a split decision in favor of “The Devastator,” though most MMA websites recording the bout (even this one) scored two of the three rounds for Oezdemir.
“Even the coaches of Reyes came to me before the judges announcement and after the judges announcement and told me I was winning the fight,” Oezdemir said (via MMA Junkie). “I don’t want to say it’s (expletive). Maybe I should have produced a little more, but I clearly won the fight. I was the better man [that night], and unfortunately the judges didn’t see it that way.”
While Reyes emerged the winner after three rounds of action (recap here), the victory is unlikely to get him the winner of Jon Jones vs. Thiago Santos, simply because “Bones” can find more lucrative bouts in the heavyweight division.
And a loss to “Marreta” would probably require an immediate rematch.
It’s unlikely that either fighter will move far from their existing spots in the 205-pound rankings and considering the outcome, I wouldn’t be surprised if the promotion asked them to run it back sooner, rather than later.
