Streaking Brazilian welterweight Claudio Silva continued to impress earlier today (Sat., Mar. 16, 2019) at UFC on ESPN+ 5 live on ESPN+ from inside O2 Arena in London, England, when he stopped Englishman Danny Roberts in his tracks via third-round verbal submission (armbar).
Silva did what he needed to do over the first two rounds to ward off Roberts’ dangerous striking and gain control of the fight. It wasn’t until Round 3 that “Hannibal” put himself in position to close the action out. During a scramble on the ground, Silva was able to grab a hold of Roberts’ arm and lock in a tight armbar. Roberts fought it off at first and looked to be sneaking his arm out, but before he did he offered a painful outburst that forced the referee to step in. After the fight, Roberts believed the fight was stopped prematurely.

With this performance, Silva locks down his 13th-straight professional MMA victory dating back to 2007. The 36-year-old Brazilian, who has fought much of his career on English soil, is now 4-0 in UFC competition, finishing his last two bouts via submission. Roberts is no slouch at 170 pounds so this win may very well push Silva into a top 15 matchup his next time out.
