Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, is fighting Anthony Smith in the UFC 235 pay-per-view (PPV) main event this Sat. night (March 2, 2019) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But had circumstances been different, there’s a chance “Bones” would have needed to go though Anthony Johnson instead. The pair were first booked to throw down at UFC 187 back in early 2015; however, Jones mowed down a pedestrian and got bounced from the event.

Johnson remained on the card, but found himself on the losing end of a Daniel Cormier submission. “Rumble” quickly rebounded with three straight knockout wins, only to come up empty in his “DC” rematch and abruptly retired from UFC at age 32.

Jones, meanwhile, only competed twice during that span due to a failed drug test.

“Thank god that boy retired, I don’t know what got into him,” Jones said on Anatomy of a Fighter (transcribed by “That weed must have been good! That made no sense, he was right there as the scariest dude around. He ain’t never getting down to light heavyweight again, thank god.”

“Rumble” had 16 knockouts in 22 wins.

Johnson got into the medical marijuana business shortly after retiring and has since ballooned up to nearly 300 pounds. It seems the former welterweight has found his new calling inside the gym, where he looks to be pumping his fair share or iron.

And judging by this pic, I can understand why Jones wants none of that smoke.
