UFC 235 results: Jon Jones vs Anthony Smith live stream play-by-play updates

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back in “Sin City” this week for the upcoming UFC 235: “Jones vs. Smith” pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is set to go down TONIGHT (Sat., March 2, 2019) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring a light heavyweight title fight main event between division kingpin Jon Jones and top contender Anthony Smith. In UFC 235’s championship co-headliner, welterweight deity, Tyron Woodley, makes his first title defense of 2019 against top contender, Kamaru Usman, who is undefeated inside the Octagon. The outcome of that bout could have an impact on the winner of Ben Askren vs. Robbie Lawler, a welterweight main card showdown that has serious title implications in the 170-pound division. And let’s not forget the return of former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt, who looks to get back to his winning ways against the rough-and-tumble Pedro Munhoz. Low kick from Smith. Really nice spinning back kick by Jones two minutes in. Smith lands a head kick, Jones ties up and puts him on the fence. Shoulder strikes. Two minutes to go.

More shoulder strikes, knee to the body. Smith lands a leg kick. Left hook from Jones. Oblique kick. One minute to go. Smith connects with a jab, eats a hard side kick. Head kick attempt, another oblique kick. Side kick, leg kick. 10-9 Jones.

Round 2: Jones opens with kicks. They trade punches, then Jones huhrts him with a body kick. Jones chewing him up with these kicks. One minute in. Spinning elbow into the clinch. They separate. Two minutes in. Overhand right from Smith, jab downstairs. Body kick and low kick by Jones. Smith with a left upstairs and body shot. Body kick. Jones follows a head kick with a left hook. Two minutes to go.

Hard straight left. Leg kicks. Overhand right, front kick to the body, oblique kicks. One minute to go. Jones tearing up both legs. Head kick attempt. Right hand downstairs. Jones shoots, lands a knee. 10-9 Jones.

Round 3: Right cross lands for Jones. Again. He shoots, lands a nice knee downstairs. One minute in. Knees to the thigh. Two minutes in. More clinchwork from Jones. Shoulder strikes, knees, body punches. Now he changes levels and hurls Smith to the mat, following with elbows. Two minutes to go.

Jones in the front headlock. One minute to go. Round ends with Smith looking for a single-leg. 10-9 Jones.

Round 4: Jones with a flying oblique kick because why not. Spinning back kick lands clean. Elbows upstairs. Up-elbow, horizontal. Jones is basically playing with his food at this point. One minute in. Jones to the body, flying knee attempt. He trips Smith to the mat, appears to throw an illegal kick to a downed opponent. Smith covering up a Jones patiently batters him. Looking for the back two minutes in. Big hammerfists. Smith gets to his feet with two minutes to go.

Jones tries to suplex him, can’t do it but gets him to his knees. Punches and elbows piling up. Hard knees to the body with a minute to go. Smith is done, man. Jones can end this whenever he wants. Smith gets to a knee and Jones lands a hit to a downed opponent. Herb Dean takes two points. 8-8.

Round 5: Smith showing some urgency. Jones still piecing him up at range. Smith sprawls on a shot and lands a right hand. Jones low kick. One minute in. Another low kick. Jones steps into the clinch and goes back to his usual clinch work. Smith denies a takedown. Two minutes to go.

Smith offering nothing. One minute to go. Jones cruises out most of the rest of the round, then tries a flying knee. 10-9 Jones.

Final result: Jones def. Smith by unanimous decision

170 lbs.: UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley vs. Kamaru Usman

Round 1: Woodley throws an early overhand as Usman presses forward. Usman looks for a single-leg and Woodly clamps onto a guillotine. Nothing there and Usman lands short punches and elbows. One minute in. Woodley complains of Usman holding his glove. Working to stand on the fence. Usman with a knee to the body. Two minutes in. Woodley makes it to his feet, takes knees downstairs. They separate. Usman continues to advance. Front kick attempt. He jabs and shoots with two minutes to go.

Woodley gets underhooks and separates. 3-2 from Usman and he ties up again. Knees and punches downstairs. One minute to go. Ref separates them. Woodley lands a right. Usman keeping him near the fence. Woodley shoots, Usman denies it, works the body, and looks for his own takedown. 10-9 Usman.

Round 2: Woodley looks for the cross counter, lands a leg kick. Usman puts him on the fence again and knees the body. Foot stomps. Woodley gets slammed into side control after briefly separating. Full mount. Usman has yet to posture up. Two minutes to go.

Usman still staying tight, grapevining Woodley’s legs. Good elbows. One minute to go. Usman looking to set up an arm triangle, landing short shots to Woodley’s body. He loses it. 10-8 Usman.

Round 3: Usman keeps on pressuring, avoids an overhand right. Low kick from Woodley, left hook from Usman. Usman ties up and they trade body shots. Usman the busier with right hands downstairs. One minute in. Ref separates them. Two minutes in. Usman with a left hand on the break. Usman avoids a right hand and puts Woodley on the fence again. More knees and punches downstairs. Two minutes to go.

Usman continues to punish the body. Ref eventually separates them. Usman slips a 1-2. One minute to go. Usman puts him on the fence and lands an elbow on the break. Woodley tries to change levels, put on the fence once more. 10-9 Usman.

Round 4: Usman still forcing him back. Low kick exchange. Woodley fires an uppercut, jumps guard on a guillotine but loses his grip. On his butt against the fence. One minute in. Usman chilling out in guard. Two minutes in. Short elbows. Shoulder thrusts. Two minutes to go.

Ref stands them up and warns Usman to be busier. Usman clinches and lands some big knees as Woodley looks for uppercuts. Anotehr hard elbow on the break. Uppercuts form Usman and he’s unloading on Woodley. Woodley blasts him with a big knee but Usman’s still coming. One minute to go. Heavy uppercut by Usman. He shoots. They trade knees. 10-9 Usman.

Round 5: Usman shoots quickly. Woodley holding onto a front headlock. Usman knees his thighs. Foot stomps. One minute in. Usman dumps him into half guard. Short blows to the body and thigh. Two minutes in. Usman just chipping away. Two minutes to go.

More of the same. One minute to go. Yet more. 10-9 Usman.

Final result: Usman def. Woodley by unanimous decision

170 lbs.: Robbie Lawler vs. Ben Askren

Round 1: Askren shoots in seconds and gets slammed to the mat. Lawler unloads with massive shots. He somehow survives, absorbs a knee to the body and they separate. Uppercut from Lawler. Askren ties up on the fence. Knees from Lawler. Two minutes in. Another heavy knee from an awkward angle. Askren looking for a single, transitions to a double. Lawler with a heavy sprawl. Askren gets him to his rear and looks for the back. Lawler tries to turn out of it and gets caught in a bulldog choke. Askren puts in the squeeze and Lawler appears to go out. The ref calls it, but Lawler is still conscious. Oh dear.

Final result: Askren def. Lawler by technical submission (bulldog choke)

115 lbs.: Tecia Torres vs. Weili Zhang

Round 1: Both women highly mobile early. Zhang tries a spinning back kick. Both fall short with punches. More kicks from Zhang. Spinning kick attempt. One minute in. Hard 3-2 by Zhang inside, right hand from Torres in return. Right hand exchange. Spinning back kick and left hook by Zhang. She does a head-and-arm throw, Torres rolls through and lands a right as they separate two minutes in. Zhang whiffs on a spinning back fist. Two minutes to go.

Zhang tries another spinning kick and turns it into a takedown attempt. She transitions directly to the back and looks for the RNC. One minute to go. Zhang loses the hooks, eats a right on the break. Right hand from Zhang, Torres hits a takedown and gets swept into side control. Elbows from Zhang. Great round. 10-9 Zhang.

Round 2: Low kick from Zhang, who lands a spinning back fist to counter one from Torres. One minute in. Zhang committing to the inside low kick. Switch kick to the body. Torres lands a body kick as Zhang opens up. Big left hook by Zhang. Two minutes in. Another check hook by Zhang. Inside leg kick. Another check hook met by a Torres right hand. Torres leg kicks. She tries an axe kick that falls short. Two minutes to go.

Torres with a couple nice right hands. They tie up and Zhang looks for throws. She completes the head-and-arm throw into half guard. Left hand landing. Torres sweeps into guard with a minute to go. Torres looking to land punches. Upkick from Zhang, punches and elbows from Torres. 10-9 Zhang.

Round 3: Teep from Torres knocks Zhang off-balance. Side kick does the same thing. Leg kick lands. Left hook from Zhang, Torres comes back with a body kick and hard right hand. Zhang finds the mark in return with a check hook and ties up. Elbow from Zhang on the break a minute in. Torres catches the next spinning back kick, eats shots inside. Knee to the body by Zhang. Elbow upstairs, body kick on the break. Two minutes in. Zhang catches a kick and hits an inside trip into half guard. Two minutes to go.

Short ground-and-pound from Zhang. One minute to go. Zhang continues to chip away until the bell. 10-9 Zhang.

Final result: Zhang def. Torres by unanimous decision

135 lbs.: Cody Garbrandt vs. Pedro Munhoz

Round 1: Munhoz catches a kick and jumps on a leglock, but can’t keep his grip. One minute in. Low kick from Munhoz. Front kick and head kick attempt. Calf kick connects. Garbrandt has yet to commit to a punch. Two minutes in. Right hook by Garbrandt. Munhoz calf kick. Garbrandt tries a combo. Munhoz with a lead right. Two minutes to go.

Munhoz leg kick off a blocked flurry. Spinning back kick and he flurries on the cage. Another calf kick and Garbrandt’s feeling it. Munhoz tries a head kick, then drops Garbrandt with either a left hook or headbutt. He takes half guard with a minute to go. Garbrandt uncorks a flying knee on the way up and they start slugging. They’re throwing ridiculous shots. Overhand rights hurt Garbrandt but he’s throwing back. Another overhand and Garbrandt collapses, succumbing to ground-and-pound.

Final result: Munhoz def. Garbrandt by TKO (punches)

145 lbs.: Jeremy Stephens vs. Zabit Magomedsharipov

Round 1: Inside low kick from Magomedsharipov. Stephens trying to cut off the cage. Leg kick lands for him. Another a minute in. Spinning back fist falls short. Body kick lands for Magomedsharipov. Stephens still targeting the lead leg, avoids a straight left. Two minutes in. Stephens looks for the body, eats a head kick. Magomedsharipov with a counter jab and a cracking pair of low kicks. He falls well short with a spinning back fist. Two minutes to go.

Stephens lands a rgiht to the body, avoids a spin. Stephens rushes in and connects with a right cross. Magomedsharipov tries a side kick, eats a leg kick. Straight left lands for him. One minute to go. Left hand connects, as does a shot to Stephens’ nuts. When they resume, Magomedsharipov tries a 360 kick and a Showtime kick. Stephens marching after him. Body kick by Magomedsharipov. Stephens tries to spin. Body kick lands on him. 10-9 Magomedsharipov.

Round 2: Body kicks from Magomedsharipov and another one strays low. Stephens struggling to cut off the cage, whiffing on his big punches. Magomedsharipov lands a lead-leg hook kick. Body shot, Stephens comes back upstairs. One minute in. Magomedsharipov pops him with left hands. Head kick attempt. Stephens blasts him with a right hand on the fence, takes a glancing back fist. Magomedsharipov straight left. Side kick. Two minutes in. They exchange body blows. Magomedsharipov shoots, transitions to a double-leg, grabs the body lock against the fence. Stephens struggling to not give up his back. Two minutes to go.

One hook in. He tosses Stephens down and gets full back mount. He’s controlling a wrist and punching with the other hand. Good elbow. Sneaky ground-and-pound. Stephens rolls to his back, lands an elbow, eats a bigger one. 10-9 Magomedsharipov.

Round 3: Leg kick from Stephens to start the round. Stephens tries to spin. Magomedsharipov lands a body kick and straight left. One minute in. Left hook by Stephens. Magomedsharipov sticks another left downstairs. Stephens tries to open up on the fence. Magomedsharipov shoots, stuffed, eats counters two minutes in. He tries to spin. Stephens bangs body shots as Magomedsharipov looks for a knee. Stephens avoids a trip. Stephens opens up with punches. Magomedsharipov shoots, denied, nearly gets blasted with an uppercut with two minutes to go.

Magomedsharipov lands a left. Some exchanges. Cracking body shot by Stephens and a straight right. Magomedsharipov with his own right cross. One minute to go. Jumping knee from the taller man. Spinning back kcik. Left hook connects. Stephens presses forward, answers a left hook wiht a right hand. They slugging it out. Magomedsharipov blasting him with big shots, can’t complete a double-leg and tries a rolling thunder at the bell. 10-9 Stephens.

205 lbs.: Johnny Walker vs. Misha Cirkunov

Round 1: Heavy low kick by Cirkunov to start things off. Walker already switching stance. He suddenly uncorks a flying knee that sends Cirkunov to the mat, then polishes him off with punches.

Final result: Walker def. Cirkunov by TKO (flying knee and punches)

135 lbs.: Alejandro Perez vs. Cody Stamann

Round 1: Stamann whiffs on some big shots near the fence. Head kick misses. Perez switching stance. Hard 3-2 connects for Stamann. One minute in. Perez nearly catches him ducking with a knee. Leg kick lands for Perez. Two minutes in. Stamann catches a kick, can’t get the takedown or the guillotine. He catches another, lands a heavy hook on the fence. Two minutes to go.

Stamann pops him with a jab, right hand comes back at him. Stamann low kick. Perez goes low-high with a 3-2. Perez puts him on the fence adn they trade punches. Counter left by Stamann. Another. One minute to go. Stamann with a nice double-leg, Perez looks for Browne elbows. Stamann can’t get him all the way down. 10-9 Stamann.

Round 2: Perez looking aggressive, Stamnn looks for a clubbing left in return. Stamann backs him to the fence. Perez avoids a clinch and they trade right hands. Good leg kick. Stamann with an oblique kick near the fence. Another. Two minutes in. Cracking check hook by Stamann. Nicely timed double-leg, Perez defends and looks for his own single-leg. They separate. Perez with a side kick. Two minutes to go.

Perez tries a spinning back fist. Glancing hook from Stamann. Leg kicks land for Perez. One minute to go. Stamann with another good entry, again Perez defending well. Stamann can’t get him down, lands a knee to the body as Perez puts him on the fence. They separate. Stamann tries a spinning back kick. 10-9 Stamann.

Round 3: Perez on the advance, hits a high-flying high-crotch on Stamann and kicks at his legs. Stamann stands. Good left by Perez. One minute in. Perez shoots again, fires a left hook while holding a leg. Stamann digs a pair of body shots. Perez to the body. Stamann lands a check hook. Cross counter from Perez. Stamann left hook connects once again. Perez suddenly lands a quality combination. Two minutes to go.

Leg kick from Perez. Stamann shoots under a jab, Perez fighting it off with the switch. One minute to go. Ref separates them. Stamann with a left hook. Right hand by Stamann, left hook from Perez. Perez tries a flying knee and lands a body kick. 10-9 Perez.

Final result: Stamann def. Perez by unanimous decision

170 lbs.: Mickey Gall vs. Diego Sanchez

Round 1: Gall wading in, trading bombs with Sanchez. Head kick attempt. Knee and uppercut land for Gall, who puts Sanchez on the fence and digs punches to the body. Gall throwing heat on the break. One minute in. Gall lands a leg kick, tries to go high. Sanchez falling short with his haymakers. He grabs over-unders and knees the body. Two minutes in. He tries to change levels, avoids a d’arce and completes the takedown. Side control. Gall regains guard, trying to stand with the cage. He makes it to his feet. Nice takedown from Sanchez into side control. Two minutes to go.

Gall gets back up and tries a granby roll. Sanchez takes him down once again into guard. Elbows to the body from Sanchez. Good one upstairs with a minute to go. Gall looking to grab a leg, Sanchez hammerfisting and gets back to side control. Gall with elbows off his back. 10-9 Sanchez.

Round 2: Sanchez lands a right hook, marches back into the clinch with underhooks. Body kick when they separate. Gall tries to pursue with punches, clips Sanchez with a left hook a minute in. Gall takes him to the fence, eats a knee and goes down. Sanchez tries to jump on his back, falls, takes it again. Gall is completely spent. Sanchez landing elbows while sprawling. Rear waist lock to takedown. Two minutes in. Sanchez takes mount, Gall uses the cage to escape. Sanchez in side control as Gall tries an inverted triangle. Two minutes to go.

Heavy elbows by Sanchez. More blows piling up. Sanchez regains mount and continues the punishment. He simply keeps hitting until the ref steps in.

Final result: Sanchez def. Gall by TKO (elbows and punches)

185 lbs.: Charles Byrd vs. Edmen Shahbazyan

Round 1: Byrd opens with a leg kick, absorbs a combo and shoots. Shahbazyan defends, then puts him down with Browne elbows on the cage.

Final result: Shahbazyan def. Byrd by TKO (elbows and punches)

135 lbs.: Macy Chiasson vs. Gina Mazany

Round 1: Chiasson aggressive early. Mazany with low kicks and lefts downstairs. Chiasson lands a body kick in return. Check hook connects, then a pair of body kicks. Two more. One minute in. Mazany still targeting the left to the body. One lands upstairs. Chiasson marches after her and puts her on the fence. They separate, but Chiasson immediately comes back with brutal punches that put Mazany spark out.

Final result: Chiasson def. Mazany by KO (punches)

115 lbs.: Hannah Cifers vs. Polynna Viana

Round 1: Low kick from Viana. Cifers on the front foot so far. Body shot connects. She looks for another combination. One minute in. Overhand right lands clean. Viana connects with a body kick. Lots of time between these engagements. They trade near the fence. Two minutes in. Inside low kick by Viana. Counter right met by a Cifers body kick. Cifers eats a body kick, lands a left hand, and Viana jumps guard, looking for a leg. She loses her grip on the toe hold and Cifers stands. Two minutes to go.

Low kick from Cifers. Overhand right. Viana lands a low kick and a body kick. Cifers counters a front kick with an overhand right that drops Viana. She doesn’t follow her down. One minute to go. Viana lands a body kick. Cifers ends the round throwing shots and they trade rights. 10-9 Cifers.

Round 2: Viana fires body kicks, Cifers responds with punches. Cifer leg kicks. Viana looking more aggressive in the early going. One minute in. Teep from Viana. Cifers leg kick. Left hook drops Cifers, who ties up. Viana jumps guard. Elbows from her back. Two minutes in. Cifers just staying tight. Now a few punches. Two minutes to go.

Good elbow from Viana. One minute to go. They trade punches. 10-9 Viana.

Round 3: Trading kicks to start the round. Right hand by Cifers, then a combination inside. One minute in. Body kick from Cifers and a right hand behind it. Via lands a knee to the body and another front kick. Back to trading in the center. Both land body kicks. Punch exchange. Two minutes in. Cifers goes downstairs with punches. Counter right by Viana, who walks into an overhand right but continues to advance. Two minutes to go.

Viana 1-2 and body kick. She steps into the clinch and exchanges knees with Cifer’s uppercuts. Cifers lands a hook on the break. Both land right hands. One minute to go. Trading kicks. 1-2 from Viana. Body kick lands. Counter right connects for Cifers, who eats body kicks. They exchange bombs until the bell. 10-9 Viana, but I expect a split.
