Here’s the UFC fighter expected to be ‘bigger than Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey’

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Denver-Barber vs Cifers Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Undefeated Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight sensation, Maycee Barber, who sports the nickname “The Future,” is being touted as the next Ronda Rousey, or perhaps even the next Conor McGregor.

Sure, she’s the one who’s doing all the touting, but as both Rousey and McGregor have shown, the more you win and continue to self-promote, the better chance you have of being elevated to main event status.

That’s why Barber put promotion president, Dana White, on notice.

“I told him that I was gonna be as big, if not bigger than Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey and all of the stars he has,” Barber told MMA Fighting. “And I am one of his next big stars. There aren’t very many right now, especially females. And I fit that perfectly. Just in terms of the person I want to portray in terms of the sport, I feel like I could fill that.”

She’s certainly off to a good start at 6-0 with five finishes, but has a long way to go to equal or surpass McGregor, the richest mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter to ever compete, and Rousey, the most popular female fighter of all time.

“Conor McGregor did it right,” Barber said. “If he’s gonna fight, if he’s gonna be a public figure, he might as well be the best one he can possibly be. And he’s doing it, right? Why would I be any different?”

Maybe she can be different when it comes to bus attacks? I dunno, just a thought.

Barber, still just 20 years old, fights veteran flyweight J.J. Aldrich at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 148 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Sat., March 23, 2019 inside Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, on ESPN+.
