Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will make its mixed martial arts (MMA) debut in St. Petersburg, Russia, by way of Yubileyny Sports Complex, when Alexander Volkov and Alistair Overeem throw heavyweight hands on Sat., April 20, 2019, on ESPN+.
Volkov (30-7) saw his six-fight win streak go up in smoke after Derrick Lewis landed a third-round Hail Mary at UFC 229 last October. “Drago” holds knockout wins over Fabricio Werdum and Stefan Struve, just to name a few.
As for Overeem (44-17, 1 NC), he’ll be looking to build on his knockout win over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Fight Night 141 last October, which snapped a two-fight losing streak for the 38 year-old striker. “Demolition Man” is ranked No. 6 in the division, one spot behind the No. 5-ranked Volkov.
Also getting their hands dirty in Mother Russia are heavyweight hurters Marcin Tybura and Shamil Abdurakhimov, while the aforementioned Pavlovich gets back on his horse against Brazilian interloper Marcelo Golm. In addition, flyweight fan favorite, Roxanne Modafferi, collides with striking sensation Antonina Shevchenko.
Stay tuned for more UFC St. Petersburg fight announcements in the coming weeks.
