Live: Georges St-Pierre retirement press conference video stream from Montreal

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre, is walking away from mixed martial arts (MMA) at the age of 36, after failing to come to terms on a lightweight title fight opposite Khabib Nurmagomedov (details here).

That means “Rush,” who was last seen holding the UFC middleweight championship, will ride off into the Canadian sunset after announcing his farewell at a special press conference from inside Bell Centre in Montreal (embedded above).

St-Pierre (26-2) is widely considered the greatest welterweight champion of all time and walks away from cage combat on the strength of 13 straight wins. Unfortunately for fans, the French-Canadian fighter surrendered five years of his prime after a falling out with promotion president, Dana White.

Nevertheless, “Rush” is a veritable lock for the UFC Hall-of-Fame, assuming his retirement sticks. In his absence, both Nurmagomedov and current welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, have already said their goodbyes.

Now it’s time for us to say ours.
