Before Jan Blachowicz attempts to earn his fifth straight win this Saturday (Feb. 23, 2019) at UFC Fight Night 145 in Prague, Czech Republic against Thiago Santos — which will stream exclusively online via ESPN+ — let’s take a look back at one of Jan’s most dominant performances inside the Octagon.
Back in March of 2018, Jan stepped into the Octagon to face off against heavy-handed Jimi Manuwa in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 127 in London, England. Going in to the fight, Jimi was coming off a lightning-quick knockout loss to Volkan Oezdemir, while Blachowicz was coming off a win over Jared Cannonier.
Once the action got started, both men meant business, keeping the fight standing for the majority of the bout. Throughout the 15 minutes, both hard-hitting strikers landed their shots, though it was Jan who got the best of “Posterboy” on the feet. After all was said and done, Jan earned the nod to collect his third straight win. Now he will look for consecutive win number five when he faces Thiago Santos, who knocked out the aforementioned Manuwa last December.
With a win, Jan can going for the 205-pound dark horse to a legit contender for the division title, which will be defended by Jon Jones at UFC 235 in a couple of weeks when he meets Anthony Smith in Las Vegas, Nevada. Santos, though, has proven to be a tough nut to crack, winning his last three fights, seven of eight overall.
