Markus Perez gave Brazilian fans their first submission finish earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 2, 2019) at UFC on ESPN+ 2 live on ESPN+ from inside Northeast Olympic Training Center in Fortaleza, Brazil, when he tapped out Octagon newcomer Anthony Hernandez via second-round anaconda choke.
After an entertaining back-and-forth first round, Perez was able to land a devastating body kick that stung Hernandez and forced him to retreat into the cage. Perez moved in and started to work for Hernandez’s back. Hernandez shook him off but eventually gave his neck up on the feet. Perez locked his arms together, rolled “Fluffy” onto his back, and squeezed until the tap.

With this performance, Perez gets back into the middleweight win column after dropping a decision loss to Andrew Sanchez back in August. The 28-year-old Brazilian continues to show wrinkles to his game and likely deserves a step up in competition his next time out. At least a matchup that will improve his current standing at 185 pounds.
