As expected, the UFC heavyweight division is an absolute mess, thanks to reigning division kingpin, Daniel Cormier, who is on the shelf until further notice after suffering an undisclosed injury.
That means top contenders like Francis Ngannou have nowhere to go. Sure, “The Predator” can rematch Stipe Miocic for the next crack at “DC,” or even fill in for the Olympian against the returning Brock Lesnar.
Or not.
“I think what should be next for me is the title shot,” Ngannou told reporters at the UFC on ESPN 1 post-fight press conference (watch it). “I think Cain is the one that the victory against him, after that, you deserve a title shot. For Brock Lesnar, he’s just walking around talking shit, but he never shows up for a fight, so let’s see.”
He’s shoving shit, too.
Ngannou got back into the heavyweight title conversation by turning away former champion, Cain Velasquez, in the UFC on ESPN 1 main event last night in Phoenix, Arizona (watch the highlights here).
Promotion president, Dana White, already shot down the idea of “The Predator” getting a crack at the crown, thanks to a mystery opponent that won’t be revealed until “DC” gets back on his feet.
Stay tuned.
