Submission! Watch Emily Whitmire choke out Aleksandra Albu at UFC on ESPN 1

Emily Whitmire set things off earlier tonight (Sun., Feb. 17, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 1 from inside Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, when she submitted previously undefeated Russian prospect Aleksandra Albu via rear-naked choke in the opening bout of the ESPN+ “Prelims.”

It didn’t take long for Whitmire to shrug off Albu’s advancements on the fight and secure a slamming takedown. From there, “Spitfire” stayed busy on top and forced Albu to make a mistake. Once Albu tried to get back to her feet Whitmire quickly jumped on her back and locked in the rear-naked choke. Albu briefly defended before the grip was tightened and she was forced to tap just 61 seconds into the fight.

With this performance, Whitmire wins her second-straight bout at 115 pounds and records the fastest submission victory in UFC women’s strawweight history. Whitmire has always been a talented fighter she just needed to put it all together. There is still work to do for the 27-year-old, but tonight’s submission victory is a huge step in the right direction.
