Are we cursed? Watch Sofiane Boukichou break leg in Cage Warriors 101 main event

There is something seriously wrong with MMA main events this weekend.

Over the course of the past 24 hours, Matt Mitrione’s main event clash with Sergei Kharitonov at Bellator 215 ended with a 15-second groin kick, Vanessa Porto suffered a horrific eye injury in her main event at Invicta FC 34 en route to claiming the vacant women’s flyweight title, and now Cage Warriors 101’s main event was stopped early due to a broken leg.

What else can happen on this cursed weekend?

The incident occurred during the first round of Sofiane Boukichou’s main event clash with Tom Aspinall earlier today (Sat., Feb. 16, 2019) from inside Exhibition Centre in Liverpool, England. Boukichou, who had won five fights in a row entering the heavyweight headliner, threw a right outside leg kick early into the round only to have Aspinall check it. Reminiscent of Anderson Silva breaking his leg in his rematch with Chris Weidman, Boukichou’s limb snapped like a twig and he was forced to the canvas in obvious pain.

The final sequence may be hard to watch, but can be seen above courtesy of Cage Warriors.

These unlikely finishes keep popping up all over the MMA universe this weekend. But with Bellator 216 set to go down later tonight, as well as UFC’s debut on ESPN tomorrow evening, fight fans will have a chance for redemption.

That said, nobody would be surprised if even more freak accidents like this one make their way into the two premier cards of the weekend. Guys like Cain Velasquez, Francis Ngannou, Michael Page, and Paul Daley better be on their toes.
