Now that UFC 234 is in the rear-view mirror (full results here), it’s time to look ahead to Ultimate Fighting Championship‘s (UFC) next pay-per-view (PPV) offering of 2019. UFC 235 is set to go down on March 2, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring a Light Heavyweight title fight between division kingpin Jon Jones and Anthony Smith.
Jones reclaimed the 205-pound title after serving his suspension for a failed drug test by defeating Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 last December (highlights). The win earned “Bones” the strap after Daniel Cormier relinquished the belt prior to the bout, though UFC already had plans to put it on the line by stripping “DC.”
Smith, meanwhile, got on the fast track by taking out three high-caliber opponents in his first three outings at 205 pounds, finishing Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua and Volkan Oezdemir in a span of just five months. “Lionheart” isn’t short on confidence, or “big balls,” as he is determined to be the first man to take “Bones” out via knockout.
Also on the card, Tyron Woodley will defend his Welterweight title against Kamaru Usman in what should be a hard-hitting co-main event slug-fest. Plus, Robbie Lawler will welcome Ben Askren to the Octagon in another pivotal 170-pound showdown.
