Aspen Ladd and Yana Kunitskaya faced each other in a women’s Bantamweight clash tonight (Sat., Dec. 7, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 7, which took place inside Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. After a competitive but slow-paced opening 10 minutes, Ladd’s unexpected surge of violence proved the correct recipe for a stoppage win!

Ladd opened the fight with a trio of left hooks and tried to hide a takedown behind them, but her shot was stuffed. Kunitskaya turned her into the fence and began to work knees. Back in the center, Kunitskaya landed some kicks and a 1-2. The fight moved back to the clinch, where Kunitskaya was again able to jam her foe into the fence. In the clinch, Kunitskaya did well to fight head position, which helped her control Ladd. Ladd countered with an elbow frame into double underhooks, where she was able to land a trip takedown. Ladd scored a couple decent elbows from half guard. Ladd moved to the back mount and spazzed out with ground strikes, losing top position in the final seconds of a fairly close round.

The two immediately exchanged to start round two. Kunitskaya stuck her foe with a jab and landed a low kick. Ladd ducked into another body lock, but this time Kunitskaya was able to stop the takedown with an overhook. More cage control, head position, and small knees to the belly from Kunitskaya. Kunitskaya broke back to the center with a nice body kick. Ladd dropped into a true double leg takedown and tripped her foe to the mat. Ladd was fairly conservative from within the guard, landing a few decent strikes in the final minute of yet another competitive round.

Ladd ran into a left hook that knocked her foe to the mat to start the third. Kunitskaya was hurt and gave up her back. Ladd jumped on and quickly flattened her foe out, forcing the finish via ground strikes.

Ladd is now back in the win column, ready to return to title contention.

Result: Aspen Ladd defeats Yana Kunitskaya via technical knockout at 0:33 of round three
