We’ve yet to hit 2020, and already we have fights set to go down in the New Year getting canceled.
Brad Tavares has been forced out of his Welterweight bout against Antonio Carlos Junior — which was slated to go down at UFC Fight Night 170 in Brasilia, Brazil on March 14 — with an injury, according to a report from MMA Junkie.
The extent of the injury was not revealed, though it was severe enough to prevent Tavares from further training from the showdown that’s three months away. Tavares was looking to end his two-fight skid with a win in Brazil.
That said, with plenty of time left until fight night, the promotion has ample time to find a suitable replacement for Carlos Jr., who has also lost two in a row inside the Octagon.
As it stands, the event will feature a Light Heavyweight showdown between Johnny Walker and Nikita Krylov, as well as a 170-pound collision between Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Alexey Kunchenko. Also on the card, Jussier Formiga will face Brandon Moreno in Flyweight action, while Paige VanZant returns to face Amanda Ribas.
