Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was planning to have flyweight veteran, Sergio Pettis, collide with fellow division contender, Kai Kara-France, at the upcoming UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sat., Dec. 14, 2019 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I guess nobody told matchmakers that Pettis, who is currently ranked No. 5 at 125 pounds, was no longer under contract with the world’s preeminent mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion and currently testing the free agent market.
As a result, their UFC 245 booking is currently “on hold,” according to ESPN.
Pettis (18-5), younger brother of Anthony, got back into the win column with a unanimous decision win over Tyson Nam at UFC Mexico City just last month, a much-needed victory that snapped a two-fight losing streak dating back to late 2018.
At just 26 years of age, “SP” has plenty of time to carve out a name for himself in competing markets, though he reportedly won’t rule out a return to UFC, if the price is right.
Time will tell.
