Ouch! Sam Alvey reveals brutal X-ray of broken hand that scratched ‘Shogun’ fight

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Sam Alvey has been injured and bounced from his 205-pound showdown against Mauricio Rua at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 164 event on Sat., Nov. 16, 2019, inside Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

“Shogun” is expected to remain on the card against an opponent to be named.

“I broke my hand the other day in practice, punched the guy in the head and it wasn’t a good punch,” Alvey said on his Instagram. “Unfortunately, I have to pull out of my fight with ‘Shogun.’ It’s heartbreaking. Hand breaking and heart breaking. It’s a fight I’ve wanted my whole career. I’m so sorry ‘Shogun’ for you and your team. I don’t mean to do this to you.”

Alvey (33-13, 1 NC) was hoping to rebound from a disastrous three-fight losing streak that includes two technical knockout finishes. “Smile’n Sam,” a former middleweight, is one of the busiest fighters on the roster, routinely competing three-to-four times per year.

Maybe the time off will do him some good, at least in terms of his overall health.
