After all was said and done at the UFC 243 pay-per-view (PPV) event -- which went down on Sat., Oct. 5, 2019, inside Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia -- there was plenty of “Thrill and Agony” to go around. Sharing in the obvious joy was Israel Adesanya, who knocked out Robert Whittaker to become the undisputed Middleweight champion in truly impressive fashion (see it again here). Making the victory that much sweeter was watching his family erupt in celebration afterward.
On the flip side, Whittaker was in obvious agony after losing his 185-pound title to “The Last Stylebender” in front of his hometown crowd. That said, he did share a beautiful moment with his supporting wife shortly after getting back to his feet.
Also sharing in the elation of victory was Dan Hooker, who picked up a huge win against Al Iaquinta (recap). Meanwhile, his opponent Al Iaquinta was obviously bummed after getting out-classed by “The Hangman.” That said, it didn’t stop him from giving Hooker his props backstage. At the end of the day, it was a great night of fights that ushered in a new championship era for Adesanya, while upping the stock of a surging 155-pound contender.
