Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Conor McGregor, watched former boxing nemesis, Floyd Mayweather Jr., fly to Japan and bank $9 million for less than three minutes of (cough) “work” and probably thought to himself, “Easy money.”
That’s probably why “Notorious” went on social media over the weekend and challenged kickboxing prodigy Tenshin Nasukawa. I’m not sure why the power-punching Irishman is so interested in Mayweather’s sloppy seconds, unless he’s trying to come in at No. 1 on this annual list.
Either way, Nasukawa sounds game.
“Dear Mr. McGregor, thank you very much for remembering my name,” the 20 year-old striker wrote on Twitter. “I’m honored that you would even consider fighting me. 58kg, kickboxing rules would probably get us in the ring sometime in the near future.”
McGregor previously referred to Nasukawa as “Jackie Chan.”
It’s been a rough couple of outings for McGregor, who returned to mixed martial arts (MMA) at UFC 229 last October, only to get choked into submission by reigning 155-pound kingpin, Khabib Nurmagomedov. That was his second straight loss when you factor in the Mayweather stoppage from late 2017.
As for Nasukawa and his poor estimations, he remains unbeaten in both MMA and kickboxing because his “Money” fight was nothing more than a simple exhibition in which he was not allowed to use kicks, his most potent weapon inside the ring.
Doesn’t sound like he’s willing to agree to that a second time.
