UFC 235 odds: Jon Jones opens as monster betting favorite over Anthony Smith

Sorry Corey, this is a no-smoking section.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, opened as a monster betting favorite over top contender Anthony Smith ahead of their UFC 235 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, scheduled for Sat., March 2, 2019 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In other breaking news, water is wet, fire is hot, and Jesse Holland writes juvenile, unfunny headlines that people inexplicably click on.

Jones (23-1, 1 NC) returned to mixed martial arts (MMA) just last month, wrecking No. 2-ranked Alexander Gustafsson with relative ease and looking nothing like a combatant who spent more than a year on the sidelines while fans heckled him for moving UFC 232 from “Sin City” to California.

“Bones” may not be considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport (that honor belongs to this guy), but he’s clearly the baddest motherfucker to ever lace ‘em up at 205 pounds and has completely shut down every opponent unlucky enough to cross his path.

With the exception of the immortal Matt Hamill, of course.

Smith (31-13) punched his way into the light heavyweight title conversation by way of three straight wins — all of them finishes — against Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua, and Volkan Oezdemir, two former division champions and one ex-title contender.

Not too shabby.

Naturally, we can’t call this bout “official” until Jones settles his unfinished business with Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) at the end of the month, when he can hopefully answer questions about those pesky drug test results.

Anyone have odds on that?
