Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to stage its first pay-per-view (PPV) offering of 2019, as UFC 234 is all set to go down on Saturday February 9 inside Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
The event will feature a hard-hitting Middleweight title fight as division champion Robert Whittaker will face off against current No. 1 contender, Kelvin Gastelum. The two men faced off agaisnt one another as opposing coaches of season 28 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). The fight will be the first for both me in the last 10 months, with Whittaker defended his strap against Yoel Romero at UFC 225 (see it), while Gastelum edged out Ronald Souza this past summer.
In the co-main event of the evening, former 185-pound champion Anderson Silva will make his long-awaited return to action to face one of the hottest contenders in the weight class in Israel Adesanya. In a clash of “old vs new,” Silva looks to prove he’s far from done in the fight game, while “The Last Stylebender” looks to secure a world title fight by taking out one of the best to ever do it.
