It’s been a tough couple of years for Chris Weidman.
The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion has now lost four of his last five, including a knockout loss to Ronaldo Souza at UFC 230 back in November. In addition, the “All American” has struggled to stay healthy in what seems like forever, and today we have a new log to throw on the injury fire.
Few details were provided, but Weidman referred to it as “unexpected neck surgery.”
“Kind of an unexpected neck surgery yesterday,” Weidman wrote on Instagram. “I’ll explain soon, but I’m all good, and I’ll be healthy soon. Disc replacement surgery yesterday, now I have to drain out of neck.”
It looks about as disgusting as it sounds.

Weidman (14-4) turns 35 in June and I think we can all agree the clock is ticking on his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. No telling when the ex-champ will make his Octagon return, but judging by the gory videos in his Instagram stories, it could be awhile.
