Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Khabib Nurmagomedov is still figuring out his future, and unfortunately for the lightweight division, that might take a little while. Transcript via MMAJunkie.com:
“Honestly, I don’t know nothing about my comeback. We have to wait,” Nurmagomedov said during an interview with Submission Radio. “… Maybe they gonna give me nine months or one year. I don’t know.”
There have been conflicting reports as to who Khabib wants to face next. He explains this is due to the number of different perspectives from those on his team- his father, his coach, his management, and himself all have different ideas for what should come next. In his mind, though, McGregor is not deserving. This could potentially pave the way for the Cowboy-Notorious matchup Donald Cerrone called for after his win last weekend.
“I have a big team – you know, my father, Javier Mendez, my management. And everybody thinks a little bit different,” Nurmagomedov said. “If you talk about it, my father thinks different, Javier thinks different, my management thinks different.”
“Right now, if you guys ask me, of course (McGregor) no deserve title shot,” Nurmagomedov said. “He lose. He tapped. It wasn’t a close fight. I dominated him everywhere in every aspect. I beat him. Like I told, I smashed him. Why we need rematch?”
If not McGregor, who then does Khabib want next? Fight fans will be overjoyed to see Tony Ferguson is on his list... and perhaps less overjoyed by the other two names. Georges St. Pierre would admittedly be a huge fight with a ton of interest, if not a deserved matchup, but why is Floyd Mayweather’s name being considered? Does anyone alive need to see Floyd return to box another UFC fighter?
“I don’t know right now, but why not maybe (Georges) St.-Pierre, (Tony) Ferguson and (Floyd) Mayweather?” Nurmagomedov said. “It will be these three guys, and we can retire and become the greatest athlete of all time.”
Maybe if enough of us shout from the rooftops that boxing Floyd won’t improve Khabib’s legacy towards being the greatest of all time, he will hear us and reconsider his priorities.
Cejudo is not about to lose this trophy
Always remember fall asleep with a dream and wake up with a purpose . I’ve dreamed a lot . I am tired now from dreaming , but not tired of dreaming. I will always dream big. As I I lay my head down with the new UFC Legacy Belt I can rest easy knowing a new era is here. #champ pic.twitter.com/m1Gbzzpcd5— Henry Cejudo (@HenryCejudo) January 21, 2019

Gregor Gillespie had his baggage stolen and put out a message on social media that he just wanted his wallet and personalized mouthguards back.

To who ever it is who stole mine and one of my coaches fight bags at the Barclays center tonight. Could you please just return my wallet and my mouth guards? If you stole the bag for some memorabilia, that's cool you can keep that if you want, but id really like my wallet and mouth guards back. I REALLLLLY don't want to go to the DMV
He’s got five finishes in a row, incidentally, the longest finishing streak in the UFC right now.
Cory Sandhagen has an interesting martial arts philosophy

Winning is fun but I gotta say that’s not why I chose this path. Martial Arts, or Combat is what I like to call it, is my love. There is no dance realer, more ugly or more beautiful than a fight - it is the dance of life. You don’t get a second chance, you only make adjustments. You can be fully honest with yourself, or lie your way thru to unfulfilled potential. You can become the ego, or become its friend. Everyday is another step towards Truth, in Combat and in life. Thank you for the massive amounts of love - it gives me more to share. See you next dance. #ufcbrooklyn #ufc #mma #kickboxing #muaythai #boxing #jiujitsu #bjj

According to these statistics, the first UFC on ESPN+ event was a smashing success that captured a lot of the UFC’s fanbase. Hundreds of thousands of you signed up.
The downside to having the UFC on ESPN...
I thought this was a video game at first
Alex Hernandez displayed some self-awareness and humility with his post-fight message to Cowboy Cerrone
Congratulations @cowboycerrone. You taught me something invaluable in defeat. Perhaps the best/worst thing that ever happened to me was a 42 second knockout debut. I go into every fight feeling untouchable and expecting a repeat of the same occurrence.— Alex Hernandez (@TheGreat155) January 20, 2019
I prepare myself in the moments prior for an execution in the first round and not a fight. I need to learn to fight. I need to address my approach. I brought the fight to Cerrone and where he made adjustments, I did not. Experience is a costly bitch.— Alex Hernandez (@TheGreat155) January 20, 2019
It appears that Cowboy Cerrone won't be cornered by Greg Jackson again anytime soon. pic.twitter.com/D9yZFeS4zz— Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) January 20, 2019
This is wild. Hopefully Dillashaw returns to his old form at bantamweight.
Dan Hooker says what a lot of us were thinking- that Greg Hardy took the easy way out by DQing himself for a loss.
He knew it was illegal. Wanted a way out. Women beaters are all cowards.— Dan Hangman Hooker (@danthehangman) January 20, 2019
Dillashaw refuses to accept his loss as a loss.

"Cowboy" Cerrone got two more bonuses tonight and has now surpassed Nate Diaz and Joe Lauzon for the most fight-night bonuses in UFC history with 16. #UFCBrooklyn— Mike Bohn (@MikeBohnMMA) January 20, 2019
Dustin Poirier is looking for a title shot next, and he richly deserves one. Lightweight is far too crowded with worthy contenders right now. If Khabib doesn’t make it back to the cage for a minute, then Poirier vs. Ferguson for another interim belt is the fight to make.
I will not take anything less— The Diamond (@DustinPoirier) January 20, 2019
Joanne Calderwood vs. Jessica Eye sounds good to me, but Eye probably gets the next title shot instead

Day9 Juryo. Watch end, but let’s talk. Wakamotoharu (R) is 4-0 and up from MS for bout. Takekaze is 2nd oldest sekitori, only a bit younger than Ami. He’s only got 1 win, could go KK, very likely to drop to unsalaried MS next time, some long timers choose to end it here.. #sumo pic.twitter.com/k48vpoERpT— SumoSoul (@TheSumoSoul) January 21, 2019
Day9 makushita. Fujiazuma (R) had a long stint in makuuchi, one later juryo yusho, but has been in MS for a while now. He is still quite capable. He’s vs 4+ year Shiba who so far alternates btwn mid and upper MS. #Hatsubasho #sumo pic.twitter.com/2h3pahlUzN— SumoSoul (@TheSumoSoul) January 21, 2019

Dennis Bermudez was one of the first fighters I began to actively follow because I was friends with one of his high school acquaintances. He had an exciting UFC career, including this gem, which could very well have been fight of the year. I’m glad he went out on top.

It was a tough pill to swallow hanging up the gloves. The journey was indefinitely one to remember. I’ve gotten to travel the world and meet so many amazing souls. Fighting has taught me a lot about myself and I look forward to helping others apply them to their lives. At the end of the day I did not obtain my goal of becoming a @UFC world champion. However, I have no regrets ! I’ve always tried my hardest in my preparations to compete as well as in my bouts. I’m very grateful for all of the love and support through the years. I’m going to keep setting goals for myself and knocking them out ! I helped in the process of getting MMA legalized in NY. So I think it’s cool as a NY native to also retire in New York on top. I’ve always carried an optimistic attitude towards life so I’m confident I will continue to succeed and be successful. I’m going to keep bring that fire, so stay tuned !! Yours truly, “The MENACE”
