Paige VanZant fought through some early adversity last night (Sat., Jan. 19, 2018) at UFC on ESPN+ 1 from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, en route to dislocating Rachael Ostovich’s arm with a second-round armbar finish.
Both flyweights had their moments in the first round, but Ostovich seemed to be getting the better of the exchanges. It wasn’t until the second that VanZant was able to catch Ostovich sleeping and locked in a tight armbar attempt off her back. Ostovich defended nicely until “12 Gauge” turned over and awkwardly came down on the arm to force the tap.

VanZant was able to weigh in on the finishing sequence during her post-fight interview.
“I heard the arm pop,” she said. “I came back and I know she’ll come back strong too.”
With this performance, VanZant gets backs into the win column after losing her last bout against Jessica-Rose Clark over one year ago. It was a big spot for VanZant on ESPN and she proved the long layoff was worth it. Another win of this fashion could land her close to contention at 125 pounds, especially if UFC is looking to push the 24-year-old a little further this year.
