Donald Cerrone did so well against Alexander Hernandez earlier tonight (Sat., Jan. 19, 2019) at UFC on ESPN+ 1 from Brooklyn, New York, that he sparked the interest of former UFC champion Conor McGregor.
“Notorious” not only took the time to congratulate “Cowboy” on a successful return to the lightweight division but he accepted the call out that Cerrone dished out in his UFC Brooklyn post-fight interview. McGregor offered his insight with the following tweet:
For a fight like that Donald, I’ll fight you.

Congratulations.
“For a fight like that Donald, I’ll fight you. Congratulations,” wrote McGregor.
While McGregor is currently awaiting a hearing on Jan. 29 with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for his involvement in the infamous post-fight brawl at UFC 229, fight fans are still speculating as to who “Notorious” will fight next. Cerrone’s name has already been linked to a Red Panty Night so McGregor’s timing couldn’t have been better.
Maybe it wasn’t just a rumor.
Once McGregor settles his beef with NSAC we can finally get some clarity on his return to the Octagon. If a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov isn’t in the books then “Cowboy” would certainly serve as a good alternative.
On the flip side, maybe McGregor has to worry about “Raging” Al Iaquinta instead of Cerrone after the New York native weighed in on the exchange with a tweet of his own:
Lmaoo you would take #14 over #4 you bird ass
— A1 Iaquinta (@ALIAQUINTA) January 20, 2019
“Lmanoo you would take #14 over #4 you bird ass,” wrote Iaquinta.
