Submission! Watch Chance Rencountre choke out Kyle Stewart for UFC’s first finish on ESPN

Rising welterweight prospect Chance Rencountre made history earlier tonight (Sat., Jan. 19, 2018) at UFC on ESPN+ 1 from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, when he became the first fighter to secure a finish on the ESPN network. Rencountre did so with a first-round rear-naked choke finish over late-replacement Kyle Stewart.

After stomaching a brutal low blow in the opening moments of the fight, Rencountre collected himself and secured a beautiful takedown. Stewart fought well to briefly get back to his feet, but Rencountre was there to drag him back to the canvas. From there, Rencountre was able to work to back control and sink in the submission finish just over two minutes into the first round.

With this performance, Rencountre gets back into the win column after dropping his Octagon debut to Belal Muhammad back in June. The Alliance MMA prospect seems to have a really reliable ground game, but needs to evolve the rest of his repertoire if he plans to climb the jam-packed welterweight ladder in 2019.
