Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) will make his return to the ring later tonight (Sat., Jan. 19, 2019) live on Showtime pay-per-view (PPV) from inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, when he defends his WBA (Regular) welterweight title against former WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs).
While Pacquiao was briefly linked to a potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. late last year, “Pac-Man” will instead take his chances against a veteran in Broner who is looking for his first win since early 2017. Tonight’s main event will mark the first time Pacquiao is competing in Las Vegas since his decision win over Jessie Vargas back in 2016.
Check below for a complete rundown of tonight’s PPV action:
Who Is Fighting?
Manny Pacquiao
Pacquiao, 40, is coming off a huge seventh-round TKO victory over veteran Lucas Matthysse this past July to claim the WBA (Regular) welterweight title. It was a very meaningful performance for Pacquiao considering many boxing enthusiasts labeled the veteran on the decline after a decision loss to Jeff Horn back in 2017 in which Pacquiao lost the WBO welterweight title.
With little to prove at this point in his storied career, Pacquiao will try to prolong his newfound success into his 40’s. It’s an age that usually saps even the best of boxers so it will be interesting to see how “Pac-Man” performs later tonight against a younger and very hungry challenger.
Adrien Broner
Broner, 29, is looking for his first win inside of the boxing ring since capturing a split decision over Adrian Granados back in February of 2017. Over his last two bouts, “The Problem” has lost a unanimous decision to undefeated boxing star Mikey Garcia and a split decision to Jessie Vargas.
Tonight’s main event clash with Pacquiao is arguably the biggest fight of Broner’s career and his first bout under the Vegas sun since dropping a decision to Shawn Porter back in 2015.
In addition to the welterweight main event, the following collection of main card bouts are scheduled to take place:
Light Heavyweight: Badou Jack vs. Marcus Browne (for vacant WBC Silver Light Heavyweight title)
Bantamweight: Rau’shee Warren vs. Nordine Oubaali (for vacant WBC Bantamweight title)
Featherweight: Hugo Ruiz vs. Alberto Guevara
