Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, was injured in training camp for the 437th time, thanks to a blown shoulder that forced him to withdraw from the since-canceled UFC 233 pay-per-view (PPV) event.
Opponent John Lineker, being the inspiring human that he is, took the cancelation in stride.
Cruz underwent shoulder surgery on Wednesday and emerged in good spirits, a far cry from the “extreme sadness” he felt in the wake of his latest boo-boo, described as tears to both the subscapularis and the supraspinatus.
I don’t know what that means, but it sounds serious.
Unfortunately for “The Dominator,” the combination of his injury and the recovery time will leave him on the sidelines for most (or all) of 2019. That means the 22-2 ex-champ will return at the age of 34, assuming he can get through his next training camp in one piece.
And it will be interesting to see who’s holding the 135-pound strap when he gets back.
