Middleweight veteran Charles Byrd did all he could to outlast striker Darren Stewart earlier tonight (Sat., Sept. 8, 2018) at UFC 228 from inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, but “Dentist” proved too tough down the stretch and put an end to Byrd via second-round TKO (elbow and punches).
It was all Byrd in the early going. The skilled submission specialist surprised many by landing almost at will on his feet. Stewart had trouble countering and shooting off much of anything. That was until the second round when Stewart found a home for a sharp right elbow in the clinch. Byrd couldn’t recover from the shot as “Dentist” chased him around the Octagon with heavy combinations, eventually stopping Byrd with a hard right hand along the cage.

With this performance, Stewart locks down his second-straight UFC victory. The 27-year-old English striker is extremely talented and could quickly make his way up the 185-pound ladder in 2019. If he’s able to stay on his feet moving forward, expect more finishes like this one.
