The upcoming UFC 230 fight card in New York City continues to round itself out, as featherweight spark plug Jason Knight will take on submission specialist Jordan Rinaldi on the preliminary undercard, per a recent report by Newsday (later confirmed by both fighters)
Knight, 26, is coming off a tough split-decision loss to Makwan Amirkhani this past May. The Mississippi native has now lost three in a row including a TKO loss to former UFC featherweight title challenger Ricardo Lamas last year. Knight, better known as “Hick Diaz,” was once considered an up-and-coming contender at 145 pounds, but has since fallen off the map. A victory over Rinaldi in front of a wild NYC crowd is the perfect way to regain his divisional momentum heading into 2019.
Rinaldi, 30, is coming off a disappointing TKO loss to undefeated contender Gregor Gillespie. With a 1-2 UFC record since making his Octagon debut over two years ago, Rinaldi badly needs a victory to stay afloat at 145 pounds. Rinaldi’s submission game is going to have to play a major role against Knight at UFC 230 considering he hasn’t shown much improvement on his feet.
UFC 230 is set to take place on Nov. 3 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, and feature a co-main event clash between lightweight contender Dustin Poirier and a returning Nate Diaz. No main event has been scheduled at this time.
