The good news? Nicco Montano will be fine. The bad news? We have no women’s flyweight title fight at UFC 225.

That’s because Montano was hospitalized for issues relating to her kidney function just hours before the official weigh ins. As a result, her Valentina Shevchenko fight scheduled for tomorrow night (Sat., Sept. 8, 2018) in Dallas, Texas, has been canceled.

“She will be fine in a few days,” training partner Steve Hanna told MMA Fighting. “The UFC medical team was called in to evaluate her this morning during the process of her weight cut. They determined that she had to cease cutting weight and be transported to and treated at the local hospital for issues regarding her kidney function.”

This is yet another setback for Montano, who captured the 125-pound title in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 26 Finale in late 2017. She was expected to defend her strap against “Bullet” much earlier in the year; however, injuries gave her pause.

No telling what plans the promotion has for the flyweight title or if the Montano-Shevchenko bout will be rebooked for an upcoming card. If so, expect another insurance policy during fight week.
